on monday night a group of at least 12 militants crossed into indian controled kashmir from pakistan ocupied kashmir (pok) and took over a village. the militants demanded food from the villagers. the villagers provided food to the attackers and the militants left. the militants began moving twards the line of control where they encountered an indian army patrol. a series of firefights broke out that left an army LT. at least 1 civilian and 12 militants dead. the army is continuing to search the area for more militants. this attack is just the latest round of violence of the insergency in indian controled kashmir which started in 1989. at least 46,000 people have been killed since the start of the insergency. the terratory of kashmir has been split between india and pakistan since 1947 and both nations claim all of the taratory. the pakistani government supports many of the militant groups active in kashmir. some of these groups have also killed nato servicemen in afghanistan.
